DeSantis Wants a Special Session to Address Illegal Immigration - The FL Legislature Told Him to Pound Sand
RINOs fill the chambers of the Florida House and Senate
FL Senate President Ben Albritton and House Speaker Daniel Perez arrogantly released a 2-page joint statement resisting Gov DeSantis' call for a special session on illegal immigration and ballot initiative integrity.
They stated: "As the people’s elected representatives, the Legislature, not the governor, will decide when and what legislation we consider."
Here’s the translation of that statement: “The wealthy and powerful special interests that control us (the leaders in Legislature) will decide the Legislative agenda.”
This was the same attitude expressed in 2024 Legislative Session when then Senate President Kathleen Passidomo killed 6 of the 10 legislative priorities set forth by Governor DeSantis. To reward her, incoming Senate President Albritton had the audacity to appoint her as the Chair of the powerful Senate Rules Committee for 2025 Session. See how this works?
Florida legislative leaders reject DeSantis’ call for a special session this month
Meanwhile, Florida Democrat legislators cheered the shared response of Albretton and Perez on social media.
Florida Senate Democrat Leader Jason Pizzo posted the memo and wrote, "Here's what an autonomous branch of government looks like." And State Representative Anna Eskamani (a huge gun grabber) posted: "Nice when there are those rare bipartisan moments where we can all agree that Governor DeSantis is wrong."
Anytime hard left Democrats like Pizzo and Eskamani compliment the GOP leadership about being bipartisan you know these leaders are not speaking like America First/MAGA legislators but more like establishment RINOs kowtowing to special interests. The question I would ask is – Is this what we have with our supermajority in the FL Legislature?
Seems that the Florida Legislature has declared war on Trump’s Border and Mass Deportation Agenda…. An Agenda our Florida Governor has embraced.
Governor DeSantis has a plan that includes strengthening Florida law to combat illegal immigration. One bill would require legal identification for remittance and if you’ve ever been in a Wal-Mart on a Friday night, you can see the Western Union in a blur. Illegal immigrants are notorious for sending money weekly back to their family in their country of origin. If they have to provide proof of identification for these transactions, half the battle would be won…..but YOUR Florida legislators don’t want any deterrents to unfettered illegal immigration.
Our governor wants to set the standard for the entire nation in putting Floridians first and aligning himself 100% with President Trump. This is a very good thing.
Florida Legislators Shoot Down DeSantis' Call for Illegal Immigration Special Session
The battle lines are drawn. The leadership in the Florida Legislature has to be called out for what they are — JEB Bush style Establishment RINOs. They hate DeSantis and they hate Trump - but will use both for re-election endorsements.
This is the shameful result we get then we keep electing or re-electing establishment Republicans who don’t uphold America First conservative values.
Want Better Republicans? Stop Sitting Out Primaries
So tired of our Florida Legislators kowtowing to the whims of their leadership instead of listening to their America First/MAGA constituents. Elections are supposed to have consequences and this situation illustrates why we need to emphasize recruiting true conservatives to run against establishment RINOs and for registered Republicans to get off their asses and vote in the Primaries.

It has zero to do with sitting out primaries. The crooked RPOF make it illegal for county RECs to support any challenger to the incumbent. It's a rule to keep incumbents in office
You are exactly correct. Voters need to understand that the Florida Republican Party is not MAGA, and they should be skeptical when they are given the official Republican Party voter guides during primaries. Conservative voters should vote for the conservative candidates who run against the pro-developer RINO candidates that the Republican Party usually supports. In order for voters to find out who those candidates are, go to RightVotes.com if you are in Sarasota County or contact your closest Republican Assembly. Chapters of the Assembly are present in many counties in Florida and because we support Conservative candidates, the Republican Party is at war with us.
